About the Event

Join Dr. MacNicol and Natalie Sullivan for an enthusiastic discussion of the equine microbiome! We'll discuss what the available literature is really telling us, what the data means, and then give some ideas on what we're missing and what the future of this research might look like. What more do we need to know to really help our equine partners?

Dr. Jennifer L. MacNicol completed her Bachelor of Animal Biology Honors with a minor in Nutritional

Science at the University of Guelph. It is at the University of Guelph where she also completed her

Master’s by Thesis and PhD studies in the Department of Animal Biosciences out of the Ontario

Agricultural College. Dr. MacNicol’s research has focused on the influence of nutraceutical supplements

on equine exercise and gastrointestinal (GI) physiology. During her PhD Dr. MacNicol focused on the use

of in vitro methods to model regions of the equine GI tract. She has a special interest in GI microbial

metabolic activity, its development in neonates, and how this can deviate during the development of

disease. She is also passionate about multi-omic data integration, statistics, and experimental design.Learn more about what Dr. MacNicol is doing at University of Guelph by CLICKING HERE.
